The most common reason a turn signal stays solid is a burned-out bulb on the outside of the vehicle. Traditional flasher relays rely on the electrical resistance of both the front and rear bulbs to trigger the blinking mechanism.
If you recently installed LED turn signal bulbs without adding a load resistor or an LED-compatible flasher, the system will not detect enough electrical draw. This mimics a burned-out bulb, causing the lights to stay solid or hyper-flash.
The flasher relay is the component responsible for breaking and reconnecting the circuit to create the blinking effect. If its internal contacts fuse together or fail, the lights will turn on but remain solid.
Corrosion inside the bulb socket or a poor ground connection restricts electrical current. This drop in current prevents the flasher relay from heating up and breaking the circuit, resulting in a solid light.
Rarely, the turn signal stalk switch inside the steering column can fail internally. This can cause it to send continuous power to the bulbs without properly routing it through the flasher circuit.
