Tires inflated past their recommended pressure have a smaller contact patch with the road. This reduces friction and rolling resistance, making the steering feel unusually light, twitchy, or overly sensitive.
If the front wheels are pointing slightly outward (toe-out) or lack sufficient positive caster, the vehicle loses its natural straight-line stability. This makes the steering feel overly sensitive and prone to wandering.
Worn suspension components allow the front end of the vehicle to lift or 'float' at higher speeds. This aerodynamic lift reduces the weight on the front tires, leading to a disconnected, overly light steering feel.
