The constant velocity (CV) joint allows the axle to flex while turning. When worn or lacking grease due to a torn boot, it produces a rhythmic clicking or popping noise during sharp turns.
The strut bearing allows the front suspension to pivot when you steer. If worn, or improperly aligned during a recent strut replacement, the coil spring will bind and release with a loud pop or 'bong' noise.
