The sway bar connects the left and right suspension to reduce body roll. When the links or bushings wear out, they develop play that causes a distinct, hollow clunking noise over uneven surfaces.
The strut mount secures the top of the suspension strut to the vehicle body and contains a bearing for steering. A worn mount or bearing will cause a heavy clunk over potholes and may make noise when turning the steering wheel.
