The outer constant velocity (CV) joint allows the axle to bend while turning. When worn or lacking grease due to a torn boot, the ball bearings click rhythmically against the housing during tight turns.
The strut bearing allows the front suspension to pivot when you steer. If it seizes, the coil spring binds up as you turn the wheel and suddenly releases with a loud pop or clunk.
If a wheel was recently removed and the lug nuts were not properly torqued, the wheel can shift slightly on the hub during turns, causing a rhythmic clicking or popping sound.
