If your vehicle is showing car pops out of gear into neutral, here are the most likely causes and the parts you'll need to fix each one.
Worn or degraded bushings in the shift linkage prevent the shifter from pushing the transmission fully into gear. Because the gear is only partially engaged, normal vibrations can cause it to slip back into neutral.
Failed mounts allow the engine and transmission assembly to twist excessively under acceleration or deceleration. This severe movement physically pulls on the shift linkage or cables, yanking the transmission out of gear.
If the shift cables or linkage were not calibrated correctly after a recent clutch replacement or transmission service, the shifter will bottom out before the internal gears are fully locked into place.
Inside the transmission, the synchronizer sleeves and gear engagement teeth have a slight back-cut angle to lock together under load. If these teeth become rounded off from high mileage or aggressive shifting, the gear will physically push itself out under torque.
Internal detent springs apply pressure to a ball or plunger that holds the internal shift rails in their selected gear position. If a spring breaks or weakens, there is no holding force to keep the transmission in gear.
