If your vehicle is showing squeaking noise from wheels that changes with vehicle speed, here are the most likely causes and the parts you'll need to fix each one.
Modern brake pads have small metal tabs called wear indicators that intentionally scrape against the brake rotor when the pads are dangerously low. This creates a high-pitched squeak that changes with vehicle speed and often disappears when you press the brake pedal.
If the brake caliper slide pins lack lubrication, the brake pads cannot fully retract from the rotor after you release the brake pedal. This causes the pad to drag lightly against the spinning rotor, creating a rhythmic squeak.
The thin metal dust shield behind the brake rotor, or the metal retaining clips for the brake pads, can easily get bent and rub against the spinning rotor. This is a very common issue immediately following a tire change, suspension work, or brake service.
