If your vehicle is showing power sliding door stuck, grinding, or won't close fully, here are the most likely causes and the parts you'll need to fix each one.
The nylon rollers on the center hinge (which rides in the track behind the rear window) degrade and break off over time. This causes metal-on-metal grinding, sagging, and prevents the door from moving smoothly.
The steel cable that pulls the door open and closed can fray, snap, or tangle inside the motor spool. This causes severe grinding noises, jamming, and often requires cutting the cable to manually close the door.
Dirt, rocks, or small items can get lodged in the lower sliding door track. This triggers the anti-pinch safety feature, causing the door to stop and reverse direction.
If the rear latch mechanism fails or the actuator is weak, the door may slide all the way shut but fail to 'cinch' or lock into place, causing it to immediately bounce back open.
Power sliding doors require significant electrical current. A weak battery can cause the door control modules to lose position memory or lack the power to fully close the door, especially when the engine is off.
