A weak battery or corroded terminals cause the starter to spin the engine too slowly, requiring more time for the engine to catch. This is frequently caused by loose battery terminals after a recent replacement or service.
The fuel system loses pressure while parked due to a failing check valve in the pump or a weak pressure regulator. The fuel pump has to run longer during cranking to rebuild enough pressure to start the engine.
Worn out spark plugs or failing ignition coils produce a weak spark. This makes it difficult to ignite the air-fuel mixture efficiently, especially during cold starts.
If this sensor falsely tells the engine computer that the engine is already warm, the system won't provide the extra rich fuel mixture required for a cold start.
Injectors that fail to close completely can slowly drip fuel into the engine cylinders overnight. This creates a 'flooded' condition that requires extended cranking to clear out before the engine can start.
A heavily restricted fuel filter limits the initial volume of fuel reaching the engine, delaying the start. This is more common on older vehicles with serviceable inline filters.

Severe internal engine wear, such as worn piston rings or a blown head gasket, reduces the cylinder pressure needed to ignite the mixture efficiently. This is a catastrophic failure that makes starting very difficult.
