If your vehicle is showing air suspension compressor runs constantly or sounds unusually loud, here are the most likely causes and the parts you'll need to fix each one.
The rubber air bladders develop dry rot and micro-cracks over time, causing air to leak. The compressor must run constantly to keep the vehicle at the proper ride height, which makes it loud and will eventually burn it out.
After years of service or overworking due to a system leak, the compressor's internal seals wear out, making it run longer and louder. Worn rubber mounting isolators also transmit loud vibrations directly to the cabin.
A failing sensor or broken linkage sends incorrect vehicle height data to the control module. This tricks the system into thinking the car is too low, commanding the compressor to run continuously.
The electrical relay that powers the compressor can overheat and its internal contacts can fuse closed. This causes the compressor to run non-stop, even when the vehicle is turned off, which will drain the battery and destroy the pump.
The valve block distributes air to each strut. If the internal O-rings fail or the solenoids stick, air escapes the system, forcing the compressor to run frequently to compensate for the pressure loss.
